Frequently Asked Questions
Which part numbers are the same filter as the GE MWF?
GE sells this filter under 3 numbers: MWF, MWFP, MWFA. They are the same part and fit the same housing. It replaced the GWF, HWF, so a refrigerator that shipped with one of those takes the MWF now.
Which refrigerators take the MWF?
4 refrigerator models on FilterHound list the MWF: GE GSH25JSTSS, GE GSS25SGSSS, GE GSS25WSSSS, GE GSS25XSRSS. Each model page shows the exact model numbers its source covers.
How often should you replace the MWF?
The MWF is rated at 6 months or 300 gallons, per GE. If the dispenser slows noticeably before then, change it early.
Is the MWF NSF certified?
NSF/ANSI 42, NSF/ANSI 53 (claimed by GE). FilterHound has not checked these listings against NSF's own database, so read them as the maker's claim.

Fitment notes
GE sells the current cartridge as model MWFP under the MWF product name; GE's support article says MWFP is the improved replacement version of MWF and that older MWFA, GWF and HWF labels belong to the same SmartWater family. GE rates the twist-and-lock filter for six months or 300 gallons at 0.5 gpm and lists NSF/ANSI 42 and 53. Each of the four older GE side-by-side families below has a model-specific GE parts page that directly lists MWFP.
